Windows 64 bit version

Postby Shorenufflaser » Thu Sep 24, 2015 1:12 pm

Hi,

I'm new to SQLite and SQLiteStudio. I'm wondering why there isn't a Windows 64 bit version of both SQLite and SQliteStudio available for download. Is there a build issue?

Thanks.

No, there's only 32-bit version, but it works perfectly fine under 64 bit windows. Why would you need 64 bit version?

Hi Googie,
Thanks for your reply.

I know the 32 bit version works in 64 bit Windows. I've used it on my PC running Windows 8.1 x64. However, I'm writing 64 bit software. 64 bit software can only "talk" to 64 bit DLLs.

I'm guessing you're trying to load some 64bit SQLite extensions, right? Yeah, there's an issue with that for now.

Problem with providing 64bit version for Windows is yet another compilation environment to be set up and time to provide that version. I think the day will come when 64bit version will be provided as well.

I have a rather large data file (about 16G) with a few large table in it (>20 million records). I often run into crashes with some database operation commands, such as 'vacuum'. I wonder if this has anything to do with memory addressing limitations in the 32-bit version. Thanks, -Jin

I don't really know. Maybe. Have you tried executing vacuum from command line SQLite tool that is available on sqlite.org? If it works in the official tool but crashes in SQLiteStudio, then SQLiteStuio has bug to be fixed. Otherwise it's a problem in SQLite itself.

I was able to run database command, such as vacuum, from a 64-bit app (DB Browser for SQLite) and it ran successfully. I watch the system memory usage went up to over 13GB when the vacuum command was running. There is no way a 32-bit app can do such a big job. One would expect it to be very slow even if it can do.

The SQLite Studio is a wonderful app. I cannot find anything close to it in terms of easy to use and its capacity. It would be great if a 64-bit version can be made available.
